The production of Romeo and Juliet was part of Johnston Forbes-Robertson's actor-management of the Lyceum Theatre, which saw him play the lead character in multiple productions. In this production, Forbes-Robertson played Romeo and Beatrice Stella Patrick Campbell played Juliet, alongside Arthur Grenville as Paris, Dolores Drummond as Nurse and Ian Robertson as the Apothecary.

Forbes-Robertson is wearing a dark tunic with a white undershirt and Patrick Campbell is wearing a white embroidered dress and white ribbon in her hair. Patrick Campbell lies on a catafalque decorated with flowers and lit by a single candle.
