Object history
Bought for £6 from Evans in Paris (see J.C. Robinson's report no.7274, 20 April 1864):
"Triptych or miniature painted altar piece the centre picture is a low relief in gilt and painted stucco, representing our Saviour as 'the man of sorrows', and teh Virgin or Mater dolorosa - half lengths, standing side by side. The doors are painted inside and out with four small, standing figures of saints - and on the base or plinth is represented the martyrdom of St Ursula and her attendant virgins, who are being slain in their [missing text] as it nears the land. German [missing text] the pictures in the manner of Grunewald.
Height 14 1/2 inches; widith with the doors opened out 14 inches
