Balancing the senses

Architectural Tile
2011 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Yu specialises in making wall tiles characterised by quiet yet intense sensuality. Through experimentation with glaze recipes, methods of glaze application and firing regimes, he creates lusciously coloured surfaces of varying degrees of transparency and with different tactile qualities. He uses digital technology to design and produce the plaster moulds with which to make the slip-cast porcelain blanks on to which he applies his glazes. The smaller tiles on display are test pieces for the full-size tiles next to which they are shown.
