Place of origin

Stephen Farthing (b.1950) studied at St Martin's School of Art (1969-73) and the Royal College of Art (1973-76), where he later taught. From 1990 to 2000 he was Ruskin Master at the Ruskin School of Fine Art in Oxford, after which he moved to New York as the Executive Director of New York Academy of Art. In 2004 he was appointed to the Rootstein Hopkins Chair of Drawing at the University of the Arts London. Farthing was elected Royal Academician in 1998.
