Equal lengths of graphite, the principal material of drawing, here form the drawing itself. Paradoxically, the work seems to cross the boundary into a different art form, that of low-relief sculpture. Karen Bateson and Hamish Young studied together at Cheltenham and have worked in collaboration since 2003.

Physical description

6cm lengths of graphite, of the kind used in propelling pencils, are arranged side-by-side, touching, and stuck down to form a slightly raised area measuring 6cm square. The 6cm square area directly above has several vertical pencil lines.
