Place of origin

Christmas greetings letter from the ballerina Anna Pavlova (1881-1931) to Margaret Rolfe, Christmas 1930.

Margaret Rolfe was the granddaughter of Mrs Boggs Rolfe, a great friend of the dancer Marie Taglioni. Margaret Rolfe attended Taglioni's dancing classes and received many gifts of Taglioni memorabilia, from Taglioni herself, from her grandmother and from Taglioni's niece, Marguerite Troubetzkoi, after Taglioni's death. She gave these to the dancer historian and publisher, Cyril Beaumont to become part of the London Archives of the Dance. Beaumont had been involved in building up the archive collection during the 1940s and 1950s, but it had never found a permanent home. Part of the collection, including Margaret Rolfe's memorabilia, was stored with Cyril Beaumont, and eventually came to the V&A as part of the Cyril Beaumont Bequest.
