The shape of the cup is an abbreviated bell-shaped bowl. There is an inscription engraved in hatched lower-case letters below which, just above the shoulder, are five wavy lines of chasing with tear-shaped motifs. The bowl then narrows abruptly into a narrow column with a swelling about a third of the way down with chased shallow depressions of stylised traceried outlines. The base of the cup is a circular foot with a bevelled edge.

Object history
The crescent moon and crown, stamped beneath the base, were introduced in 1888 on German silverwork to denote work of 800 quality and over.
