The Hackney Empire in London is well known for its annual Christmas pantomime. Actor Clive Rowe has appeared as the pantomime Dame ten times at the venue since 1998. This costume for Rowe as Mother Goose takes its inspiration from nursery rhymes. It features scenes from ‘Little Miss Muffet’, ‘Three Blind Mice’ and ‘The Cow that Jumped over the Moon’.

Object history
The Nursery Rhyme costume is designed to be worn over a second costume, the Jamaican flag costume (S.595-2016). The Jamaican flag costume includes a turban with attached ringlets and hoop earrings. The turban is worn under the mob cap and is Velcro-ed to it in performance.
