This confrontation is about a woman flouting male authority. A gin-drinking, pipe-smoking, middle-aged woman brushes aside the criticisms of a church minister by giving as good as she gets. Above the doorway on the right is lettering which reads Rich Cordial Gin and inside the doorway is an early advertisement, for Old Tom tobacco.
