Historical context | The identification of the incident is suggested by the gateway, the tricorne hats and kilts worn by the soldiers, and by their torches; the building on the right probably represents the Gumbaz (Tomb of Hyder Ali) at Seringapatam. See M. Archer, Tippoo's Tiger, VAM, 1959. The drawing is probably based on previously published engravings of this famous event. |
