Place of origin

A double sided, single page flier advertising Tiger Out East! at Baishakhi Mela, Brick Lane, 2005. The flier includes the concept design for the tiger designed by Ali Pretty and Mike Pattison, the central float for the project Tiger Out East!, commissioned in 2006 by Tower Hamlets Council. The reverse of the flier advertises the workshops that ran alongside the project and advertises the date and venue of the tiger floats launch, as well as contact information and sponsor details.

Tiger Out East! was part of the Baishakhi Mela procession at Brick Lane to celebrate the Bengali New Year. The Royal Bengal Tiger was chosen as the inspiration for the float design, with consultation with the local Bengal community, as a symbol of beauty, pride and respect. Ali Pretty designed the tiger, Mike Pattison designed and engineered the metal frame, Tony Mason sculpted the body. The stripes were made out of sheet aluminium and Bangladeshi artist, Baish Kadir beat Bengali Alpana designs into them. The final construction was completed at Spitalfields City Farm, with the procession taking place on the 14th May 2006 in Brick Lane.
