The puppets represent the San people who migrated from Southern Africa, and formed part of the Celebrate South Africa, commissioned by the South African High Commission to celebrate contemporary South Africa.
The puppets were performed at The Thames Festival in 2001, and subsequently in Kinetica productions of Yemanja and Roads to Freedom.

Physical description | The image shows the carnival production, People on the Move. It consists of two large puppets that sit on top of two performers dressed in black at a carnival. The puppets are made of papier mache and painted to appear like wood, with linear patters throughout. The puppets also have long individual strands of black hair, made of papier mache and decorated in black, red and yellow. The puppets are raising their arms and spreading their legs that are linked to the performers feet. |
