Object history
This suit has never been worn and when acquired, was still contained in its original packaging, which reads: "Speedo Jetstream: The Choice of Olympic Champions. 1972 Olympic Games: 28 out of 29 Gold Medals Won in Speedo." An additional note at the bottom of the clear plastic bag reads "Chosen by 5[? C]ountries. 21 out of 22 W[or]ld Records, Munic[h 1]972." (bracketed bits absent due to printing flaw.) The 1972 American Olympics team wore similar Speedo costumes but in patriotic red, white and blue stripes with stars down the stripes rather than Olympic rings.
