Object history
Given by Rev. J. R. McKee and worn by his grandfather. The waistcoat was often the only touch of colour in a man's otherwise dark and sober outfit, and in the 1830s richly coloured velvets such as this were popular. Patterns of checks and tartans were fashionable towards the middle of the 19th century.
