A gold circular thali decorated with a scrolling pattern in wirework and flattened granules with a hemisphere ball in the centre. It has a cylindrical loop in the middle of the flattened top of the otherwise round sheet of gold which is soldered on with a strengthening tapered strut on the back.

Object history
This pendant is part of the large donation of Indian folk jewellery from Dr Waltraud Ganguly which was collected over the last few decades before her death in 2015 from dealers in both India and Europe, in parallel with extensive fieldwork she carried out in the Indian Sub-Continent. It was purchased from the antiques collector, Lily Vijayaraghavan in Chennai 1997. It cost 2261 Rupees.
