The Holy Text and Talismans:
The Arabic text of the Qur'an is sacred to Muslims. Many believe that an object inscribed with the word of God protects its owner and wards off evil. Small copies of the holy book were produced so they could be easily carried, and scrolls of Qur'anic text were rolled up and kept within amulet cases. This is still practised by some Muslims today.
Protective talismans could also be inscribed with quotes from the Qur'an, or decorated with astrological symbols, religious poems or images of the Prophet.
