Rachel New (nee Clark) lived in East Ham, London in the 1970s and aged 6 attended a local street party on Thorpe Road, in celebration of Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee in 1977. The street was decorated with bunting and Union Jack flags, with many of the people attending also dressed up in red, white and blue for the occasion. Lots of activities were organised that day for the entertainment of local families, from sports contests to fancy dress and knobbly knee competitions. This photograph of a children's sack race was taken by Rachel's father and is shows East London families enjoying the royal celebrations on their street.
