Sideboard of wood ebonised inside and out, with mirrors, and turned,incised and carved decoration; painted in gilt and colour with brass locks and hinges. The lower section is built up on eight legs (four at the front and four at the back) and is divided horizontally into a tripartite structure of two full-height side cupboards and one wider central cupboard with a shallow drawer set above it; the side cupboard doors decorated with - on the left, a gilt and painted depiction of 'Punch' or a fool, and on the right door a poet, both figures are in medieval costume; the sides of the lower section are decorated with a gilt-work grid (3 across, 5 down) with each compartment containing a different stencilled floral or animal motif; on top of the lower section of the sideboard and set at the back of it, is a four-tiered unit of shelves with the same horizontal tripartite structure of the lower section; the bottom range comprises two drawers either side of a central open compartment; above this, in the middle range a large central mirror is framed on either side by two shelves supported at the front by turned columns, the back boards of the shelves are decorated with incised and painted floral and bird motifs; the top range comprises two further shelves (same width as those below but not as tall), one either side of a central two-door cupboard, the back boards of the shelves are coved and each decorated with two foliate roundels depicting the North, South , East and West winds; the central cupboard doors are decorated with, on the left - 'Night' in the shape of an owl upon an oak branch with crescent moon, and 'Morning' in the shape of a lark rising from a harvest field with full sun; this top stage is surmounted at the front and sides by a balustrade with turned balusters and rail with a gilt moulding and at the back by a continuous rail with mouldings on the top and at each back corner a square finial with bands of gilding.
