The canvas depicts two trees on which two bright green parrots are perched. Above we see a god sitting on an elephant and below, a hunter who has just fired an arrow at the tree.
At the centre of the painting we see an extract of the Ramayana written in Hindi. In this painting, the artist has applied bright green and yellow in loosely defined areas. Pop influences and oriental calligraphic art are deployed by the artist to depict an Indian mythological subject.
Redappa Naidu was born in 1932. The artist trained at the Government College of Arts & Crafts in Madras. He held his first one-man show in 1958. He has exhibited in India and abroad and participated in the Biennale at Paris, 1965, Sao Paulo, 1969, the Kala Yatra Exhibitiion, London, 1972 and other group shows. He received the Lalit Kala Akademi Awards in New Delhi, Andhra Pradesh and Madras between 1962-1971. The artist died in 1999.
