Content description
Shape no. 2410. The exterior of the jar is decorated with 'Sycamore Tree'.

The three panels of 'Sycamore Tree' were known as 'Feng Hwang', 'Bridge', and 'Ship and Tree'. The design for the fairy seated on the rocky promontory opposite to the spider's web in the 'Feng Hwang' panel was taken from Edmund Dulae's illustration for 'The Tempest' (1908) of Ariel astride a bat. The fairy from the 'Ship and Tree' panel came from the same source and mat be found opposite page 102 (Una des Fontaine, p.286 and 135-6).
Marks and inscriptions
Mark 2 and painted with 'Z 4968' also incised '2410'.
