Formed on the potter's wheel, Huh Sang Wook's pot has been pounded to create straight walls out of the originally globular form. White clay has been applied to the surface. Flowers and leaves are carved into that white layer. The artist has scraped off the white clay to reveal the dark colour of the vessel, allowing the floral pattern to stand out. He has said that he wants to create a sense of space by emphasizing the contrast between pattern and background colour. He is interested also in the sculptural effects achieved when the glaze flows or pools.
