This scene depicts the mound and mosque of Nabi Yunus (or Nebi Yunis), within the complex of ancient ruins at Nineveh in northern Iraq. The mosque was destroyed by Islamic State in 2014. This print is one of 13 by Archibald Ross-Thomas, Director of the British Institute at Mosul. During his tenure, there were a series of archaeological excavations at Nineveh (in 1954), which may have been when this scene was sketched out.
