This over-dress or Tangtsag, was worn over a brocade chuba by noblewomen in Tibet for important celebrations or one’s own wedding. Such garments were always used when the full set of seven types of traditional jewellery were worn on such special occasions.

Physical description | A short sleeved overdress consisting of several vertical bands of woven and dyed wool stitched together, the bands are wider at the bottom than at the top. The panels consist of alternating bands of dark rainbow colours and pale yellow or white bands stamped with tig ma or crosses in red and blue. The garment has a central front opening and closes to the right, proper, with a string and toggle. The end of the sleeves are plain dark red/brown wool featuring circles containing blue tig ma. The sides of the garment are of the same plain red/brown woolen cloth with rows of circles each enclosing blue tig ma. |
