Place of origin |
Following her purchase of Hill Top in the Lake District in 1905, Beatrix Potter (1866-1943) made many studies of the Lakeland landscape in all seasons. Potter enjoyed sketching outdoors and thought the Lakeland fells 'even more impressive in mist and snow'. This sheet of loose watercolour studies is dated November 1910, when Potter was staying at Hill Top in Near Sawrey; it seems to capture Potter’s immediate surroundings on the farm, including the chickens, in snow.
Beatrix Potter is one of the world's best-loved children's authors and illustrators. She wrote the majority of the twenty-three Original Peter Rabbit Books between 1901 and 1913. The Tale of Peter Rabbit (Frederick Warne, 1902) is her most famous and best-loved tale.
