Harking back to the brand's equestrian origins, the striped Rocabar motif is based on woolen horse blankets produced by Hermès in the early 20th century. The original mustard, blue and red Rocabar design has been frequently revisited by Hermès over the ensuing decades; appearing in various fabrications and colourways, as a blanket, a trim on a garment, or adorning accessories.

This Rocabar poncho was was worn by Anne Moen Bullitt, a wealthy American socialite and keen horse breeder and trainer. Born in Paris in 1924, Anne led a well-travelled life from an early age, travelling with her diplomat father around the globe. In the late 1940s, Anne moved to Spain with her second husband; it was here where she developed a taste for couture fashion as a regular client of Cristobal Balenciaga. Throughout her life, Anne would amass a vast wardrobe of couture fashion, accessories and jewellery, spanning four marriages and decades of travel.
