A man's coat and waistcoat of black woollen broadcloth. The coat neckline is round with a standing collar (8 cm). The two-pieced, shaped sleeves are close-fitting, reaching to the wrist and ending with a small round cuff (11.5 cm). The front edges curve from neck to hem with narrow skirts set in a pleat (2 cm) at the side back. There is a scalloped pocket flap on each front at hip level. The pockets and sleeves are lined with bleached linen. The pocket flaps, cuffs, collar, fronts and back skirts are lined with black silk twill. The lining at the collar and shoulders is stitched in parallel lines to wool interlining underneath. There are six covered buttons on the right front from neck to pocket flap, with 6 corresponding buttonholes, worked in black silk twist, on the left side. The centre two buttonholes are cut. There are 3 buttons below each pocket opening, 3 on each cuff, 1 above the pleats, 1 holding them at the side-back seam and 1 at the centre of the pleats. There is a hook at the right front edge on either side of the 3rd button down, with corresponding metal eyes on the left front.

The waistcoat fronts and backs are made of the woollen broadcloth. The neckline is round with a standing collar (7 cm). The fronts curve from neck to hem with short skirts below the hip. There is a scalloped pocket flap on each front at hip level. The pockets, backs and fronts are lined with bleached cotton, the back skirts and collar with black silk twill. The front edges are faced with black silk twill. There are 7 small covered buttons on the right front, with 7 corresponding buttonholes, worked in black silk twist on the left side. There are 3 buttons below each pocket opening. There are 2 pairs of black linen tape ties on the back.
