The photograph features a scene showing the interior of a room, dominated by a large fireplace and two chairs. In the foreground are three figures, one female, two male. The men are positioned to the centre right, one of them (standing at the far right) is being restrained by the other and is attempting to rush toward the woman (Lady Wishfort). She is positioned to the left of the scene and is shown leaning slightly forwards, her left hand upraised, and her right arm outstretched and gesturing behind her.
