Brief description
Black and white checked wool suit (consisting of suit jacket and trousers), worn by Annie Lennox during the Eurythmic's 1983 Touch tour, designed by Jeff Banks, 1983
Physical description
Black and white checked wool suit (consisting of suit jacket and trousers), worn by Annie Lennox during the Eurythmic's 1983 Touch tour designed by Jeff Banks, 1983. The suit has a lightweight wool ground. It has been woven with a geometric pattern of interlinked horizontal and vertical lines of black and cream (of varying widths and in darker and lighter tones).

S.130:1-2019

The suit jacket has a checked black and cream ground and is lined throughout with black silk[?]. A black cotton tape label at the interior collar, woven with silver metallic thread, reads 'Jeff Banks'. It has been cut fairly loosely, resulting in an intentionally square silhouette, with additional fullness at the shoulder line creating with thick pads at the shoulder line. The sleeves are long and the jacket extends to a point slightly below the natural waistline, fastening at the centre front with two large black plastic buttons. It has a soft collar with wide lapels and two angled pockets (with pocket flaps) are positioned at the base of the proper left and proper right front panels.

S.130:2-2019

Long cream and black wool check trousers. The trousers have a narrow waistband, gathered onto a band of elastic (now stiffened). The upper leg of the trousers is full and loose, but the trousers taper are they move towards the calf, and fit closely at the ankle. A thick band of elastic (now stiffened) runs across the base of each trouser leg (enabling the wearer to secure the trousers in place and control the line and fit of the trouser leg when worn).
The trousers are not lined. They fasten with a short metal zip at the proper left hip and a single button on the waistband (positioned just above the top of the zip). There are two functional pockets and these are positioned at the proper left and proper right hip.
The remains of the original designer label, reading 'Jeff Banks', is present at the centre back interior of the waistband. This label is now in two parts, with a small inverted triangle of black material inserted between the two halves, (above the CB trouser seam).
