Architectural Tile

This tile is one of hundreds made for the exterior of A House for Essex, a holiday home near the village of Wrabness designed by the artist Grayson Perry in collaboration with FAT Architecture.

Perry has emerged as a vital cultural figure in Britain, chronicling contemporary Britishness through tapestries, ceramics and drawings as well as in his media appearances and lectures.

The house is dedicated to Julie, a fictional Essex every-woman, and it tells her life story through decoration and integrated artworks. The tile depicts Julie nude with a large belly and breasts standing in a Romanesque arch.

A House for Essex, Perry’s largest artwork, opened in May 2015.
