Object history
This coat was designed and made by the painter and textile artist Lilian Grace Delevoryas for her wedding to the writer Robin (Henry) Amis in 1972. It is a completely unique garment that was subsequently loaned by Lilian to other brides for their weddings.

Lilian started working in textiles after she suffered a creative block and found herself unable to paint. Her work with fabrics enabled her to regain confidence in her skills and creativity, and since then, her textile work has become an important part of her output. She and Robin launched the Wetherall Workshop in the Forest of Dean, which, until its closure in 1979, specialised in tapestry and wall-hangings.
