The necklace was commissioned to be worn by the donor's mother with a pair of emerald earrings (IS.25:1-2008 and IS.25:2-2008), though at a later date. It was probably made in Hyderabad, Deccan. Jewellers there worked to supply the Nizams and other elite families, as well as Europeans in the city.
