This fragment (one of 6) of a rare late 17th century wallpaper with a pattern of flowers and leaves was found at Radclive Manor, Radclive, Buckingham, adhering to the plaster in a cupboard. The pattern is typical of the late 17th century fashion for lining papers and wallpapers with patterns derived from black-work embroidery patterns. Pieces of the same pattern were found on the walls of the Shrubbery, a late 17th century house in Epsom (demolished 1977; now in the local Epsom & Ewell Museum). A further example of the same design is in the archive at Longleat, where it forms the lining of a deed box.
