David Huycke is a Belgian silversmith and has worked since 1993 as an independent artist in the field of sculptural art-objects. His work is shown worldwide, and can be seen in permanent collections such as the Designmuseum in Ghent, the Röhsska Museum in Gothenburg, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the Musée des Arts Decoratifs in Paris among others. In 2007 he received the Bavarian State Prize for Contemporary Crafts, awarded by IHM, Munich. In 2010 he acquired his PhD in Arts from Hasselt University and the K.U. Leuven with the project, The Metamorphic Ornament: Rethinking Granulation, a practice based research on the contemporary artistic relevance of the ancient technique of granulation. At present he is associate professor at the University College PXL-MAD, Hasselt, Belgium and at the Faculty of Architecture and Arts of Hasselt University, where he is coordinator of the department, Object & Jewellery and of the research group Manufacture. In his current research David Huycke is focusing on the meaning of material surface in the contemporary silver object.
