A silver hathphul with a circular central element made of sheet metal with fused rosettes onto which are linked five clusters of small silver balls (gajre). It is fringed with looped wirework rimmed with granules. Pairs of linked chains connect to a pair of finger rings with beaded wire rims bearing small clusters of gajre with two other paired chains linked to rosettes also linked to gajre. These are linked to paired chains forming a hooked wrist band.

Object history
This hathphul is part of the large donation of Indian folk jewellery from Dr Waltraud Ganguly which was collected over the last few decades before her death in 2015 from dealers in both India and Europe, in parallel with extensive fieldwork she carried out in the Indian Sub-Continent. It was bought in the town of Jhabua District of Alirajpur, Madhya Pradesh in November 2001 together with another similar pair of hathphul Prov.1288-2015.
