Nose Ring

20th century (made)
Place of origin

A gold nose ring with a hook and eye fastening. It is decorated with silver and glass beads separated by silver granulated rings, a purple stone, possibly an amethyst, in a tear-drop silver setting, and a row of radiating gold balls all slotted onto the lower portion of the ring. There is a network of tiny red and green glass beads strung on a silver alloy wire as an outer rim. The area within the ring is densely decorated with an infill of rows of tiny seed pearls with an overlay of either red or green glass beads mounted in lac in tear-drop shaped settings made of die-stamped silver. The back reveals a web of silver wires twisted and threaded and plaited to keep the ornamentation in place.
