Design by Malcolm Pride for Patrick McIntyre as Dancer in Robert and Elizabeth, Lyric Theatre, London, 1964.

Malcolm Pride (1930-2003) trained at the Old Vic School. His first major design commission was Volpone for the 1952 season at the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon. He went on to design sets and costumes for theatre, ballet and opera productions, and his work was seen in London's West End, at Sadler's Wells and the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith, and at the Edinburgh Festival. In 1973 he became Head of the Theatre Design Department at Wimbledon College of Art, a post which he held for 27 years.

Physical description

The costume design depicts the character of Dancer in Robert and Elizabeth. He is wearing an orange and yellow and brown waistcoat, a pale pink shirt with brown detailing, an orange and brown belt, orange and yellow and brown cap, and white trousers. There are swatches of yellow knit fabric and grey corduroy and orange corduroy fabric pinned to the left of the page. The left of the page has detailed sketches of the back of the waiscoat and the top of the shirt. The right of the page has a detailed sketch of the cap. There are costume element details and show information written on the page.
