Malcolm Pride (1930-2003) trained at the Old Vic School. His first major design commission was Volpone for the 1952 season at the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon. He went on to design sets and costumes for theatre, ballet and opera productions, and his work was seen in London's West End, at Sadler's Wells and the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith, and at the Edinburgh Festival. In 1973 he became Head of the Theatre Design Department at Wimbledon College of Art, a post which he held for 27 years.

The costume design depicts the character of Bella Hedley in Robert and Elizabeth. She is wearing a pale blue and silver dress with a low neckline and a split skirt, with a pink underskirt. She is wearing a pink pearl and emerald necklace, pink and blue bracelets, white gloves, and dark brown shoes. She has blue and pink wings attached to the back and a matching headdress with a feather-like spray at the crown. She is holding a wand. The left side of the page shows a pencil sketch of the wings. There are swatches of pink and blue fabric pinned to the top right and the middle right of the page. There are costume element details and show information written on the page.
