This jacket is illustrates the importance of the department store Liberty, originally known for importing artefacts from Asia, in promoting interesting clothes for men. Its location in the West End helped to confirm the Carnaby Street area as the heart of ‘Swinging London’. The jacket’s woven label, including the works ‘Genuine handwoven/Indian Madras (in imitation Tamil script) clearly shows the company’s continuing links with the textile industry of India.
