This is a design for a costume worn by Will Evans (1866-1931) the celebrated music hall and pantomime star and comedian, and son of the famous Drury Lane clown and acrobat Frederick William Evans. It was created by Attilio Giuseppe de Comelli von Stuckenfeld (1858-1925), known professionally as Attilio Comelli. Comelli was a prolific costume designer who was artist in chief to Drury Lane, the Alhambra and Covent Garden theatres in the late 19th century.
The design shows the official regalia worn by Evans as Pompos, the Court Official at the Court of Duke of Monte Blanco, who was played by George Graves (1876-1949).
