Rigid silver bracelet, vauk, of braided wirework is semi flexible and has a fastening device behind the decorative scalloped and patterned convex element with a lobed knop at its centre. The fastening device is a flattened silver loop which is slotted into three rectangular interlocking boxes hidden behind the ornamental unit.

Physical description
Rigid silver bracelet, vauk, of braided wirework is semi flexible and has a fastening device behind the decorative scalloped and patterned convex element with a lobed knop at its centre. The fastening device is a flattened silver loop which is slotted into three rectangular interlocking boxes hidden behind the ornamental unit.

Object history
This pair of armlets is part of the large donation of Indian folk jewellery from Dr Waltraud Ganguly which was collected over the last few decades before her death in 2015 from dealers in both India and Europe, in parallel with extensive fieldwork she carried out in the Indian Sub-Continent. It was shown at the exhibition in the Goldschmiedehaus, Hanau, Germany, 18 October 2013 - 18 January 2014. It was bought from Amrapali in February 2012.
Historical context
Untracht states that armlets of this type were worn by the Mahratta and Gujarati women of the Raval community.
