These gravity-defying shoes are inspired by the sometimes vertiginously tall footwear worn by courtesans in the Edo period. At the same time as referencing historical Japanese dress, Noritaka Tatehana uses traditional materials and techniques to create his shoes. A trained dyer and weaver, he hand-crafts each pair himself.
