AT&T Corporation, an American telecommunications company, commissioned this statue to stand atop their headquarters in downtown Manhattan. Measuring seven metres tall, the gilded sculpture exudes the power of energy. Bolts of lightning spring from his raised fist and electric cables curve around his muscular body, which references classical forms. By the late 1930s, this triumphant figure had become the company’s emblem and was reproduced on AT&T publicity nationwide.(May 2023)
