Sir Cecil Walter Hardy Beaton, CBE (14 January 1904 – 18 January 1980) was an English fashion, portrait and war photographer, diarist, painter, interior designer and an Academy Award-winning stage and costume designer for films and the theatre.

Physical description
Line drawn pen and ink sketch showing a female figure in an evening dress. The dress has a wide neckline and sits low on the shoulders. The sleeves are short and full. Coloured pencil crayon has been used to add detailing to the sleeves and the deep pointed 'V' at the centre front of the bodice. The skirt extends into a train at the centre back and is decorated with large bows, as are the tops of the sleeves. The sketch has been drawn on the rear of a page of type written text.
