Handbag

ca.1970s (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This Yves Saint Laurent bag is a clutch with a trapezoid silhouette, the sides of the bag angling outwards towards the base. It has a deep flap cover, the sides of which angle inwards with a padded edging. Yves Saint Laurent was the initial successor to the founder at the house of Christian Dior and, like Dior, had a rigorous approach to the line of the silhouette. His own work included small bags, often on long shoulder straps which left hands free or clutch bags such as this example, which could be tucked inside the hand and did not interupt the overall silhouette.
