Physical description

Poster depicting a man wearing brown corduroy breeches, a blue tailcoat, black boots and hat, with a cane behind his back. He is facing two restaurants, with his back to the viewer, making a choice between them. The proprietor of each is standing outside attempting to coax the man into their eastablishment. The one on the left is called 'The Little Englander' and promises 'Liberal Fare' with a menu reading 'Disintergration Soup, Scuttle Fish, No-Policy Pie, Radical Mash, Irish Stew, Desert Everything, Mixed Pickle, Pain ad lib'. The one on the right is called 'The Empire Hotel' and promises a 'Splendid Constitutional Menu' of 'Peace Soup, Fish- Union Jack Colonial Salmon with Federation Sauce, Joints- British Beef and Australian Mutton, Entrees- Loyal Hearts and Boors Heads, Poultry- Cape to Cario Capon and Canadian Horn, Sweets- Omdurman Omelet'. Both proprietors are dressed in almost identical purple suits woth white shirt sleeves and aprons. Signed and dated on the plate by the artist. Lettered bottom right with the printer's and publisher's names.
