Are We to Have Home Rule by the Unruly Boy or the Parent?

Poster
1906 (printed)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Political poster on the subject of Irish Home Rule, with the title in black and red letters reading 'Are We to Have Home Rule by the Unruly Boy or the Parent?'. The boy has a blackened nose, wears short red trousers, and a tall, brimless hat. He carries a rough club of wood and is kicking one leg up high, having launched a tea pot into air in front of him. Behind him is a rotund woman with the face of Henry Campbell-Bannerman, wearing a long pale dress with polkadots on the back, puffing out her cheeks and holding her hands up in exasperation. The lettering underneath reads '"C.B.- Dear dear, what am I to do with the boy, He's the plague of hy life; I wish he weren't a child of mine". If you want to get on with the business of the country, vote for' and then a space is left for the candidate's name. Signed on the plate 'Winnie Burnand', and lettered with printer's name and address. In the centre is a stamp in purple ink, stating the prices of the posters if filled in with the candidate's name.
