Set design for 'Cheapside' in pantomime Dick Whittington, London Palladium, 1952.
Dick Whittington starred comedian Frankie Howerd as Idle Jack and comic actor Richard ‘Mr Pastry’ Hearne as Mate. The show’s scenery, designed by Charles Reading, achieved great praise, with the Daily Telegraph describing it as “lavish spectacle” and Ivor Brown in the Daily Express commending the production’s “nice clean colouring, great dash and speed, and […] fine efficiency in its ‘effects’.”
The show also featured Jimmy Currie’s Water Scena and Knie’s Chimpanzees trained by Captain A Smith.
