Sir Cecil Beaton (1904-1980) was best known as a photographer. Beaton also worked as an illustrator, a diarist, and designer for stage and film. He won three Oscars for costume and art direction for the film version of My Fair Lady (1965) and for Gigi (1958).

Costume design by Cecil Beaton for a character in an unknown production. The design shows a black ink drawing of a woman in a floor-length dress with a flared bottom, a large square collar and buttons down the front of the chest. She wears a small sloping hat. The design has been drawn on white paper then cut out and mounted on a larger sheet of pink paper.
