Sir Cecil Beaton (1904-1980) was best known as a photographer. Beaton also worked as an illustrator, a diarist, and designer for stage and film. He won three Oscars for costume and art direction for the film version of My Fair Lady (1965) and for Gigi (1958).
In March 1940, Cecil Beaton organised a pantomime, Heil Cinderella and profits went in aid of the "Daily Sketch" War Relief Fund. Cecil Beaton co-wrote the pantomime with John Sutro and also designed the scenery and costumes. Beaton played one of the ugly sisters. The pantomime was first performed in Brighton and Bournemouth and then for a week in London at the Fortune Theatre.
