This is one of a group of casts taken from sculpture still in Salisbury Cathedral. Most are in the Chapter House, which contains some of the finest surviving English Gothic sculpture. This cast was made during the restoration of 1855–6. The face is unique. It is possible that the original sculptures were based on real people known to the artists who carved them.
